Senior SQL Server DBA (Poland)

  • Position Summary:

    As part of our team, you will work with a group of engineers to design, develop, and deliver applications and services. You’ll work in collaboration with our product and platform teams to better understand and translate policy and business requirements into features, user stories, automated tests, and working code. You will leverage your expertise to challenge our assumptions about the reliability of our deployment and the effectiveness of our processes as we strive to improve.
    The DBA will be responsible for working with development and operations teams to design and build resilient, well-performing data environments that meet our application needs in the most efficient, economic way possible.

    Your Day-to-Day:
    We’re looking for experienced DBA to join our team in helping deliver the very best for our users, as they’re the reason we’re striving for excellence in everything we do.

    • SQL Server database administration, configuration, load balancing, performance tuning, backup, high availability, and disaster recovery.
    • Support SQL Server databases in a large-scale deployment both in Azure and On-Prem environments.
    • Help applications migrate from On-Prem to Azure SQL.
    • Upgrade end-of-life SQL Server versions.
    • Monitor and optimize/tune SQL Server database performance.
    • Troubleshoot database issues, maintain database systems availability and scalability, and do capacity planning.
    • Analyze data access and modification requirements to ensure efficient SQL and optimal database design.
    • Should be able to write, analyze, explain, troubleshoot, optimize, and improve advanced SQL queries.
    • Willingness to learn and support other DBMS platforms.
    • Create pipelines to deploy various self-service DB capabilities.
    • Participate in enhancing and deploying new DBaaS offerings.
    • Develop and enforce standards, policies, and procedures for managing databases.
    • Promote a “one-team” approach for sharing common processes and practices.
    • Support database operations and adhere to Change Management policies and procedures.
    • Participate in On call rotation and immediately respond to alerts.
    • Build a network of strong, collaborative relationships among all the stakeholders.
    • Challenge established ways of doing things to improve the organization’s capabilities around commitments, actions, and results.
    • Collaborate across teams to consolidate and simplify tooling and services.
    • Build libraries, modules, and packages for services developed in order for others to integrate with their projects.
    • Work closely with our product teams to ensure that we are shipping software that meets security, SLA, and performance requirements.
    • Solve problems in ways that drive towards simplicity of architecture and operations.
    • Share on-call responsibilities, including collaborating with other engineers to triage and fix issues that come up in production for our users.
    • Help determine the future technical direction of our environment with a focus on improving reliability and performance.
    • Work closely with product and platform engineers to triage production issues and determine appropriate remediation including code changes and performance considerations.

    What You Bring to The Team:

    • 5+ years of experience as an SQL Server DBA supporting both On-Prem and DBaaS solutions.
    • Must be familiar with SQL tools like: Azure Data Factory, SSIS, PowerShell, SQL Server Data Tools, T-SQL, bcp, and sqlcmd.
    • Proficient in Azure SQL DB – creation, administration, and troubleshooting.
    • Proficient in HA and DR technologies like SQL Always-on, SQL Clustering, log-shipping, Mirroring, Transactional replication, Load Balancing.
    • Proficient in SQL Server and SQL Clusters database installation, upgrade, patching, maintenance, security, sysadmin functions and administration.
    • Good knowledge of Azure platform services like network, storage, security, firewall etc.
    • Strong problem solving and prioritizing skills.
    • Knowledge of scripting languages, such as PowerShell and BASH considered a plus
    • Ability to root-cause sources of instability on high-traffic, distributed systems.
    • Strong understanding of reliability challenges of large-scale deployments.
    • Strong critical thinking skills. You make sound decisions when faced with competing priorities and limited information.
    • Someone interested in the why, not just the how. You like to analyze situations and won’t be satisfied with a shallow analysis.
    • Creative problem-solvers and risk-takers. You like to take initiative in pushing a project forward but can adjust based on team feedback.
    • Someone who will put the customer first in on-call and project work.
    • Strong communication skills. You can validate and communicate your decisions clearly.

    Nice to Have:

    • Familiarity with one or more following database technologies is a plus: MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB, CosmosDB, Informix, DB2-LUW.
    • Experience with DBaaS.
    • Azure certifications like Azure Fundamentals and Administering Relational Databases
    • Experience in Bentley products and services a plus.
