Highest salaries are different for public and private sectors. Karolis Blaževičius, the head of the recruitment company Indigroup, agrees, pointing out that the basic salaries of bank managers operating in Lithuania could amount to EUR 15-20 thousand on paper, plus various bonuses. However, Mr Blaževičius considers the salary of the Litgrid CEO, with a variable component, to be a competitive salary. However, given that salaries are usually lower in the public sector, recruitment experts unanimously agree that it is much more difficult to find a professional manager to join the public sector. And it is not only because of lower salaries – SOE managers also have to cope with political pressure.

“In my opinion, the President’s salary is ridiculous – we should not compare and we should not bring down the salaries of other public bodies and companies on the basis of the Prime Minister’s or the President’s salaries, which are low. Sometimes they are so low because of public attitudes. If it is said that the President’s salary should be among the highest salaries, it should be raised because it is too low. If we do not think it is too low, we should not compare it with other salaries, because they are different things”, Blaževičius said.
