How to prepare for recruitment – an employer’s guide.

The outsourcing of recruitment to a partner needs to be of high quality, because no matter how professional a recruitment company is, it will not be able to offer a quality result without all the information it needs. So how should the company prepare for the recruitment project?

Position description

Whether it is a draft version or simply an incomplete position description, it is always preferable to obtain a written document before starting a discussion about a position. The added benefit of a position description is that the recruitment company will arrive at the meeting or join it remotely having already prepared questions, suggestions and perhaps even a preliminary long list or outline of possible long lists. Thus, the exchange of information before the need is refined allows for a quality discussion of the position and a faster start of the recruitment process.

Origin of the recruitment need

The recruitment company, although not a direct partner in business development, needs to know why the need for the position has arisen. Knowing this information will enable recruiters to select candidates more accurately and to better present the need to them. Context is essential in many business areas, and HR and recruitment also need it.

Reward budget

The recruitment company will undoubtedly give you an estimated salary range, but it is always useful to hear the employer’s salary expectation. Sometimes salary ranges reveal that we may be looking for a more senior professional or that we may be saving money because the employer’s salary ranges are too high. Of course, sometimes we have to simplify the requirements because the salary thresholds are too low. In any case, this issue needs to be discussed before any recruitment exercise.

Stages of a recruitment project and the people involved

It is often the case that employers are particularly attentive to prospective candidates but do not have a detailed plan of action for what they will do once the interviews with candidates have been agreed. A consultation with a specialist from a recruitment company will certainly help, but it is useful to have a preliminary plan of the selection steps before the interview with the recruitment company.

A good recruitment partner will always advise on how to prepare for the recruitment, but once the client’s information is available, they will already know what the client’s initial expectations were for the position, salary etc. This allows the recruiter to offer recruitment solutions that are no longer generic, but precisely tailored to the client’s needs. This is why a good recruiter asks a large number of questions in client interviews, which make clients think and provide invaluable information when preparing for a search.
