Top 5 qualities of a recruitment partner

The field of the Personal Recruitment Specialist requires certain professional and personal skills. Here are 5 qualities that are a must for a good recruitment partner:

1. Excellent knowledge of the labour market

A recruitment partner must have an excellent knowledge of the labour market in which they operate. His/her knowledge must extend to salary averages in different areas, the largest companies in each area, the extremes of the labour market, i.e. where there are surpluses of specialists and the greatest shortages, etc. The labour market is dynamic, but there are a wide range of statistical surveys that need to be monitored in order not only to fill staff shortages, but also to plan for the potential need in the light of the labour market situation.

2. Business knowledge

In the field of recruitment and selection, specialists are dedicated to certain areas, e.g. recruitment specialist for IT recruitment, marketing, etc. In this case, a recruitment partner can have a deep understanding of a particular field, a better knowledge of the expectations of that field, the actors in the labour market and the best channels for recruitment. Both the employer and the candidate require a discussion, so a recruitment partner in a particular field must be able to discuss topics that are familiar to the recruiter and thus better understand the employer’s expectations and the candidate’s suitability for the position.

3. Excellent communication skills

The recruiter represents the interests of both the employer and the prospective employee. Good representation requires ideal verbal and non-verbal skills, which can be useful not only when presenting the position, but also when negotiating with the candidate or when introducing him/her to the future management team.

4. Ability to see potential

If all employees were to change to the same position in a different company, the position of recruitment partner would become meaningless. A good recruitment partner must therefore be able to see a candidate’s potential in a particular area. Being able to offer a position to a candidate whose potential is ideally suited to it is an essential quality of a recruiter.

5. The ability to ask the right questions

A good recruiter asks thousands of crucial questions throughout their career. He or she asks questions of both the employer and the prospective employee, so the ability to formulate questions accurately and to obtain maximum information in a limited time is an essential quality of a recruiter.

These qualities are essential for any recruiter who wants to pursue a career in recruitment. All of these qualities need to be developed on a daily basis because the labour market, especially in the Baltic States, is very dynamic. All 5 qualities are particularly important in recruitment because every recruitment project requires all the qualities in different phases of the recruitment process. Unfortunately, there is no study field in Lithuania that has recruitment as a core subject. This is why direct work experience is essential to become a recruiter.
