Senior MS SQL Database Engineer

We are looking for a Senior MS SQL Database Engineer, who will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure database reliability, availability, and performance, while also contributing to the overall architecture and strategy of our cloud-based database solutions. The role will be helping teams to troubleshoot and resolve the most critical database related issues. All tasks will be focused around our main product ProjectWise, which we are transforming from the client-server architecture to the cloud based architecture.

Your Day-to-Day:

• Work directly with development and infrastructure teams to enhance the performance and observability of various cloud-based database services.
• Proactively work with engineering teams to ensure that data and access standards are being followed.
• Support apps teams with SQL tuning, indexing, partitioning approach to achieve required performance and scalability.
• Troubleshoot databases and application issues including security patching, SQL tuning, capacity planning, and schema design.
• Design and implement processes and procedures to reduce and eliminate database outages and downtime.
• Participate in database design and architecture to support application development projects.
• Develop automation scripts and tools for routine database tasks, deployments, monitoring, and scaling.
• Develop best practices for database design and development activities.
• Maintain monitoring and alerting for databases.

What You Bring to The Team:

• +5 years of experience as an Senior MS SQL Database Engineer.
• Proficiency in SQL and query optimization.
• Experience with database performance tuning and monitoring tools.
• Familiarity with database security practices and compliance standards.
• Scripting and automation skills using languages like Bash, Ansible, JavaScript or similar.
• Proactive approach for identifying issues, areas for improvement, and database performance bottlenecks.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Bonus points if you have:

• Understanding of the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, networking, identity, security, and storage.
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Expertise in defining operations in code, utilizing version control, peer review, and CI/CD for seamless deployment of changes to both applications and infrastructure.
